Dental Care

Pets need dental care just like people, especially as they get older. Dental care is very important and adds to the lifespan and quality of life of your pet. We will check your pet's teeth carefully during their physical examinations, stage their dental disease on a scale of 0 (normal) to 4 (severe), and make recommendations accordingly. Signs that your pet’s teeth may need to be checked sooner include bad breath, broken or loose teeth, discolored teeth or teeth covered in tartar, difficulty eating or pain/bleeding/swelling in or around the mouth.

If indicated, we can perform a complete dental examination, cleaning, and treatment under anesthesia. Your pets teeth are ultrasonically scaled to remove plaque and tartar/calculus followed by polishing and fluoride treatment. More advanced dental procedures, including extractions, are also performed at our clinic if necessary. We also have a digital dental x-ray to help assess severity of disease.

We also recommend routinely brushing your pets teeth. We are happy to walk you through the steps on how to brush your pets teeth at your next visit. Brushing your pets teeth is the best way to help control dental disease. Dental diets are sold here in our clinic to help prevent dental disease in conjunction with yearly dental cleanings. Dental diets and dental chews can also help prevent dental disease. Be sure to look for the Veterinary and Health Council (VOHC) seal on any product that claims to help with dental disease.
